Austin, Texas-based scientist Doug Lenat details the many everyday problems that humans solve without conscious thought, but which are extremely difficult for a computer to sort out. At his company, CYCORP in Austin TX, we meet CYC, the computer system that he has been developing for the past 17 years: at one level, it has begun to "understand" the documents it reads..
